The possibility of a Virtual Woodscape was discovered by observation of patterns in wood grain. The natural texture of growth lines provide accurate data like a topographic map.
The same kind of study and methods of pattern treatment were then applied in the project Hertervig 3D (The Old Pine 3D) at Stavanger Art Museum (previous Rogaland kunstmuseum).
That way, the construction of pictorial space could be investigated, in this case the scenery in the famous painting Old Pine Trees by Lars Hertervig from 1865.
Public shows with various Woodscape+ projects include: Trondheim Art Museum, Norway 2005, Kosmorama International Film Festival Trondheim, Norway, 2007, Berlinische Galerie, Germany, 2007; and three exhibitions 2008 in
Stavanger, European Capital of Culture program, Norway.
The film "Material", that premiered 2013 in Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Germany, is also based in those findings.
